The omicron coronavirus strain is absent in Egypt, the Ministry of Health said
Egyptian authorities have stated that there is no new Omicron coronavirus strain in the country. This was announced by the Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abd al-Ghaffar, RIA Novosti reports.
“Analysis of the genetic sequence of positive samples for coronavirus has proven the absence of the omicron strain in Egypt at the moment,” he said. According to the politician, the department is carefully monitoring the situation with the spread of the new strain.
Earlier, a member of the Federation Council Vladimir Krugly argued that citizens who visited Egypt could have brought the strain to Russia, and called for the closure of air traffic with the country. However, later the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) denied information about the closure of Egypt for Russian tourists.
