The visa fee when visiting Egypt will increase from 25 to 60 US dollars from 1 July 2017. It is reported RIA Novosti citing a statement issued by the Ministry of tourism of the Republic.
The Ministry clarified that the decision to increase the visa fee for visiting Egypt tourists will come into force not on 1 March, and four months later. The date of 1 March was called by some media, referring to the notification in the Egyptian airports.
According to the Agency, the decision of Cairo on increasing the visa fee caused in the tourism sector of the country a mixed reaction. A number of experts and functionaries described it as hasty, noting that it will not allow travel companies to take timely action.
Local media reported that the Egyptian deputies and the tourism sector will try to delay the introduction of new tariffs.
In early February, it was reported that the Egyptian authorities intend to review the legislative framework of all the agencies involved in the tourism sector, and to bring it into line with international standards of tourist industry. In particular, the government considered the issue of “development of mechanisms for the use of electronic entry visas to Egypt.” It was also suggested to determine the possibility of accession to the open skies policy to “encourage flights to the country’s private airlines.”
Before it became known that the flow of travelers to Egypt in 2016 fell by almost 50 percent.
