Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on celebration of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the battle of Stalingrad. The document is published on the official portal of legal information on Monday, February 20.

“Accept the offer of the government of the Russian Federation on the celebration in 2018 the 75th anniversary of the defeat of the Soviet troops of Nazi troops in the battle of Stalingrad”, — stated in the decree.

To prepare for the holiday, according to the document, will set up a special organizing Committee. It will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

Cabinet instructed within one month to approve the composition of the organizing Committee, to develop and approve the plan of main events for the celebration of the victory of the battle of Stalingrad, as well as to engage in the work of the government of the Federation.

2 February 1943 — the day of the defeat of Nazi troops in the battle of Stalingrad, one of the key battles of the great Patriotic war. Volgograd was named Stalingrad until 1961.
