The Department of public safety of Sverdlovsk region refused to negotiate a rally in memory of slain opposition leader Boris Nemtsov reported in a Facebook group “Ekaterinburg — for freedom.”
“The reason someone filed at this time and place the notice before us. In response, we propose to postpone the meeting of memory and people’s memorial Nemtsov to the area of Defense,” — noted in the post.
To move the event outside of the centre, the organizers refused. They decided to hold a meeting without sound equipment and to lay flowers at the originally intended place.
The rally was scheduled to be held on February 27 at the Labor square in the city centre. There the activists were going to organize a people’s memorial, where anyone could bring flowers.
February 16, the Moscow mayor’s office agreed to hold a March in memory of Boris Nemtsov. One of the organizers Michael Schneider said that the municipality intends to propose to the organizing Committee to hold a March in last year’s route: along the boulevards from Pushkin square to Sakharov Avenue. In St. Petersburg the action agreed only partially. Authorities allowed to hold a rally on the Champ de Mars, but not March.
The politician was shot dead on February 27, 2015, on the Big Moskvoretsky bridge. Nemtsov was hit by four bullets, he died on the spot.
