Saint Petersburg State University
Saint Petersburg was named the city with the most affordable higher education. This is evidenced by the research of the HSE’s Institute of education published by TASS.
Second place went to the Amur, and the third — Vologda oblast. The most difficult situation with the financial accessibility of higher education in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Chechnya.
The study took into account not only tuition, but living expenses. “The lack of financial support, poorly developed infrastructure of the universities, the high cost of directly training and a limited number of budget places in the region limit the possibilities of access to higher education for students from families with low incomes”, — stated in the message.
The most expensive education in Moscow and the Moscow region, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district, Kamchatka Krai, Tyumen and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
It was also found that the largest number of universities where the average grade of students is over 70, located in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region (64.7 percent of all freshmen), Tomsk (56.9 percent) and Sverdlovsk (47.2%) regions, and also Moscow and Moscow region (38.1 per cent). It is clarified that in 29 regions there are no universities, where the average unified state exam score of students exceeds 70.
