Burak explained that oatmeal is rich in carbohydrates and practically does not contain fats and proteins, therefore it is absorbed very quickly. This can lead to fluctuations in blood sugar levels and, as a result, feeling hungry soon after a person eats oatmeal breakfast. The feeling of fullness becomes even more short-lived if syrup or sugar is added to the dish, the nutritionist said.
The specialist noted that she does not urge to give up oatmeal and suggested making it more nutritious with protein. “You can add significant amounts of protein to oatmeal or eat it as a side dish. This can be, for example, eggs, nuts, seeds, peanut butter, yogurt, protein powder, cottage cheese or any other protein that you like, ”said Burak and added that oatmeal, combined with protein, will become a complete meal that will allow stabilize blood sugar levels and prolong the feeling of satiety.
