Hungary calls 20 years of NATO mission in Afghanistan a failure

Hungarian Foreign Minister Siyjarto: 20 years of NATO's mission in Afghanistan turned out to be a “failure” to maintain national security in Afghanistan “failed”. He stated this in an interview with RT TV channel, RIA Novosti reports.

“20 years of the international mission ended in failure, because we had plans to provide financial assistance to maintain the national security of Afghanistan and the defense forces until 2024” , – the minister said, adding that even before the alliance finally left Afghanistan, it turned out that all “plans collapsed.”

The minister also noted that Hungary took part in the evacuation of Afghan citizens from Afghanistan.

In September, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with The New York Times explained that the US NATO allies could not continue the military operation in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of American troops from there. According to him, in April, US President Joe Biden held consultations with NATO partners on the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, and all allies agreed with his decision.

On May 1, the official withdrawal of US and NATO forces began from Afghan territories. After that, the situation in the country aggravated, the Taliban forces intensified ( banned in Russia ). On August 15, militants announced the establishment of control throughout Afghanistan. On August 31, the entire foreign contingent left the republic.
