The Central District Court of Kemerovo ruled to detain Makhrakov until January 25. The investigation believes that the director knew about the dangerous concentrations of methane before the explosion.

The Investigative Committee insisted on the arrest, as it believes that Makhrakov could put pressure on witnesses, destroy evidence and abscond. The prosecutor's petition was also supported by the prosecutor. The detainee himself asked for house arrest.

It was reported that Makhrakov refused to admit guilt for violating safety standards.

Earlier, the Kemerovo court also imprisoned the chief state inspector of the Belovsky territorial department of the Siberian administration for two months Rostekhnadzor Vyacheslav Semykin. He will remain in custody until January 26, 2022.

The incident occurred early on Thursday morning, November 25. Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia Dmitry Demeshin believes that the cause of death at the Listvyazhnaya mine was a methane explosion caused by a spark. Later it was reported that a total of two methane explosions took place in the Kuzbass mine. The miners were killed in the first explosion. Rescuers who participated in the search operation died from the second explosion.
