Uber Eats to launch drug delivery in Ontario to combat illegal trade Canada, writes Reuters. The company said the new option will help tackle illegal trade in the country and allow Canadians to buy safe and legal cannabis.
Uber has announced that it will list Tokyo Smoke on its Uber Eats marketplace. Users will be able to place orders for the purchase of drugs in the application, and then pick up the package at the nearest retailer.
Cannabis is on the list of prohibited substances in Russia. In Canada, marijuana was legalized for recreational purposes in October 2018. However, the country still has to contend with clandestine producers, who still control most of the market – they account for more than 40 percent of all sales.
Uber, which has already launched liquor delivery in the country, has long intended to enter the growing marijuana trade market. According to the head of the company, Dara Khosrowshahi, now the delivery of cannabis can also begin in the United States, but first all legal aspects of the trade have to be worked out.
In November, the US Department of Justice accused Uber of discriminating against people with disabilities. The department said that the company unlawfully requires people with disabilities to pay additional waiting time. The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Uber, pointing out that the corporation did not adjust the payment rules for people who, due to health reasons, need more than two free minutes to get into a car.
