Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was accused of accepting a particularly large bribe Press secretary of the anti-corruption committee Marina Ogandzhanyan reported this, RIA Novosti reports.
As Ogandzhanyan said, a written undertaking not to leave the place was chosen as a preventive measure for the politician. “I cannot give other details yet,” she added.
Earlier, the ex-president’s lawyer Amram Makinyan said that Sargsyan was summoned for interrogation to the anti-corruption committee as an accused. Makinyan recalled that the former head of state was interrogated in the bribery case two years ago. Then he was involved in the case as a witness.
A criminal case against Sargsyan was initiated at the end of 2019. According to the investigation, in 2013 the then president provided protection to the Flash company. It won the tender for the supply of diesel fuel, although it offered a higher price than its competitor. The state suffered damage worth a million dollars.
In mid-June, the nephew of the former president, Narek Sargsyan, received 5.5 years in prison for illegal circulation of weapons, ammunition, drugs and kidnapping. Since he has been in custody since 2018, now he must serve 3.5 years.
