The first Russian region to introduce QR codes in public transport

Kommersant: Tatarstan will introduce a ban on entering public transport without a QR code from November 22

Tatarstan will be the first Russian region QR codes in public transport. The new rule will come into force on November 22, Kommersant reports.

In particular, the republic will impose a ban on entering urban, suburban and municipal transport without a QR code on vaccination against coronavirus carried COVID-19 or medical contraindications for vaccination. The document will also have to be presented in the Kazan metro.

QR codes of passengers will also be checked when selling tickets. According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Transport of Tatarstan, Andrei Yegorov, in the absence of a document, citizens will have to leave the transport. On November 16, a recruitment of QR controllers began in the republic.

The requirement for the presence of QR codes in public transport will be introduced on behalf of the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The carriers were also promised to provide a subsidy for the purchase of special equipment for checking the document.

Earlier it was reported that the government would check the readiness of the transport system for QR codes. First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Andrei Belousov added that the introduction of this measure is a necessity.

On November 12, bills on QR codes in transport and public places were submitted to the State Duma. The initiative does not regulate the operation of public transport, pharmacies, grocery stores and retail outlets with essential goods.
