Russians were offered 25 years to wait for housing “like in Europe”

Sberbank: Russia will be able to catch up with Europe in housing provision in 25 years

the current volume of construction. Vladimir Sitnov, deputy head of Sberbank's Corporate and Investment Business department, suggested that Russians wait so long, RBC writes.

According to the expert, from 80 to 85 million square meters of real estate are being built annually in Russia. Sitnov believes that in at least a quarter of a century the country will be able to match the level of housing provision with the average European countries. It will take even more time to catch up with the most developed representatives of the EU.

“This gives us hope that we will be at the level of increased demand for real estate for a long time,” said a bank employee. Sberbank believes that in order to preserve the volume of housing commissioning, it is necessary to issue construction permits for at least 42 square meters in 2021-2022.

According to the Ministry of Construction, the current housing supply in Russia is at the level of 26.9 square meters per capita – by 2030 the figure is planned to be raised to 33.8 square meters. However, compared to Europe, the affordability of housing in the country is quite low. In France and Finland, there are almost 40 square meters of real estate per person, and in Germany – more than 40 “squares”.
