Paris opened up areas for cooperation with Russia

The French Foreign Minister announced possible cooperation with the Russian Federation in Iran, Afghanistan and the Caucasus

Paris and Moscow have a number of areas in which possible foreign policy cooperation. This was stated by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, Le Monde reports.

The diplomat noted that in order to move forward the Fifth Republic can work in coordination with the Russian Federation on some points. “First of all, on Iran, where we are trying to resume nuclear negotiations. Then – on Afghanistan, where we share the position on the need to avoid the revival of terrorism, “he said.

Among the areas for cooperation with Russia, the French Foreign Minister also named work on a stable peace in the Caucasus, in particular between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “Dialogue is essential, especially in times of crisis,” he concluded. At the same time, Le Drian noted that there are deep disagreements on the Sahel and Ukraine between the Russian and French sides.

Earlier it became known that Germany and France were outraged by the publication of the correspondence between Foreign Ministers Heiko Maas and Jean-Yves Le Drian with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding the meeting of diplomats in the “Normandy format”. The foreign ministries said they took note of the decision to make these confidential discussions public.
