Lukashenko allowed the military to provide assistance to migrants in crossing the border

Lukashenko: Belarusian military could help migrants, they have a heart

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with BBC admitted that the military of his country assisted migrants from the Middle East in crossing the border with Poland.

“I think it is absolutely possible. We are Slavs. We have a heart. Our military knows that migrants are going to Germany. Maybe someone helped them. I will not even delve into this, “Lukashenko said.

However, he denies that thousands of migrants were specially invited to Belarus to provoke a crisis on the borders with the European Union.

According to Lukashenko , he was not going to detain them at the border. “But I didn't invite them here. And, frankly, I don’t want them to travel through Belarus, ”he concluded.

Earlier, Lukashenka’s press secretary Natalya Eismont said that in a conversation with the Acting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he said that the European Union must create a humanitarian corridor for two thousand refugees. In exchange, the Belarusian leader promised to facilitate the return of all other migrants to their homeland.

TASS, citing a source in the German Cabinet, said that Merkel had responded to Lukashenko with a refusal to accept migrants to Germany. Poland opposed the creation of a humanitarian corridor.
