US Announces Iranian Hacker Data Award

The US Treasury imposed sanctions against six Iranians and Emennet Pasargad for attempting to change the elections

six Iranians and IT company Emennet Pasargad “for trying to influence” the presidential elections in 2020, according to the agency's website.

The Ministry of Finance also named six employees of the Iranian company Emennet Pasargad, ranging from executives to ordinary employees. According to the department, hackers tried to invade the US information environment and change it in order to sow discord and undermine faith in the elections.

It is noted that the people subjected to sanctions from August to November 2020 spread disinformation on social networks, sending threatening emails. In addition, they posted a video hinting that the vote was being carried out using fake ballots. For the data on these individuals, the State Department announced an award of up to ten million dollars.

“These hackers worked for the Iranian government to influence the US elections in 2020,” the State Department's Twitter account for the assistance to justice.

The agency added photos of two young people to the publication: the State Department is looking for information about Sayed Hossein Kazemi and Sahhad Kashian. It is noted that they “were involved in malicious Iranian cyber operations aimed at the presidential elections in 2020.”

Earlier, Russia spoke about the US position on Iran. Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that the Russian side did not see changes in Washington's policy on interaction with Tehran.
