Rosneft will acquire a 37.5% stake in the PCK refinery in Germany

Igor Sechin: the German market is of strategic importance for Rosneft 5 percent in the RSK refinery in the German city of Schwedt from the Shell company. The relevant documents were sent to the partner. The deal is expected to close after regulatory approval. As a result of the transaction, Rosneft's stake in DGC will increase from 54.17 to 91.67 percent.

“The increase in the share in the PCK refinery indicates that the German market is of strategic importance for Rosneft. The company traditionally builds long-term relations with partners from Germany, guarantees timely and uninterrupted supplies of raw materials, modernizes key refinery units, “said Igor Sechin, head of Rosneft.

According to Igor Sechin, RSK is one of the most technologically complex refineries in Germany with a Nelson index of 9.8. Rosneft plans to strengthen the plant's technological leadership, including through the implementation of low-carbon projects, taking into account the current EU environmental agenda. The company implements projects aimed at the production of cleaner fuels, such as green hydrogen and environmentally friendly aviation fuel. Work in this direction will continue, the head of Rosneft said.

Following the norms of European legislation, Rosneft Deutschland uses biodiesel, bioethanol and diesel derived from vegetable raw materials for the production of highly environmentally friendly fuel, said Valery Andrianov, associate professor of the financial university under the Russian government. “And today the volume of production of such fuel is half a million tons per year! Deliveries are going all over Europe, – said the expert. – The products manufactured at the RSK refinery are actively used today in various sectors of the German industry. RSK supplies modern high-quality aviation fuel to German airports – Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich and Nuremberg, and Lufthansa aircraft are refueled with it. And the bitumen produced at the RSK refinery, by the way, is used according to Rosneft technologies in the road construction of the famous German autobahns. ”

Rosneft has already announced that it plans to strengthen the technological leadership of the plant. And an important role here will be played by low-carbon projects, the implementation of which will be carried out taking into account the current environmental agenda of the European Union, commented on the news CCI expert Dmitry Polokhin.

“Rosneft noted that“ green hydrogen ”is already being developed at RSK and environmentally friendly aviation fuel. Green hydrogen plays an important role in the EU's drive to be carbon neutral by 2050. And Rosneft has already announced that it actively supports at its refineries in Germany various research and design work related to the production of “green” hydrogen using renewable energy sources, noted Dmitry Polokhin. “Rosneft traditionally achieves its goals, and I think that in the near future we will hear about specific projects of the RSK plant in relation to the announced initiatives.”
