According to him, the decision of the German regulator to suspend certification is due to the desire to gain time for the formation of a new government coalition of Germany. At the same time, Breininger noted that in this situation it is difficult to say which component prevails – politics or the German bureaucracy. He also added that the regulator probably found a formal reason for the refusal.

Earlier, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, said that Germany had not yet made political statements to Russia in connection with the suspension of certification of Nord Stream 2. “So far, with regard to the official position, primarily of Germany, which is the recipient of this project, we have not heard any political statements in this regard,” the diplomat said. He noted that the Kremlin would not like to see political motives in Berlin's actions.
