According to media reports, in 2008, Donson, being the mayor, was found guilty of a sex crime against a 15-year-old girl. The pedophile's assistant was also re-elected – he was again Werner Meshoa, previously punished for fraud.
Initially, Donson was sentenced to five years in prison, but then the sentence was changed to a suspended sentence – with supervision, a rehabilitation program and a fine of 20 thousand rand (93 thousand rubles). Opposition parties and activists demanded that both criminals be removed from office.
In October it became known that the Russian State Duma plans to consider a bill on tougher punishment for pedophiles.
