According to Kiva, the Ukrainian authorities forced the commission to deprive him of his title, because the deputy's dissertation allegedly “is not new.” “This is another formal reason for the authorities to discredit me,” he said. In addition, searches were carried out in the apartment where the politician's second daughter lives.

Ilya Kiva was detained by security officials in Kiev, and a criminal case of treason was opened against him. The deputy was deprived of the right to the award weapon, issued to him in 2015, and was also expelled from the OLL.

The reason for the investigation into Kiva was his video message to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In it, the politician congratulated the Russian head on his birthday, and also called him the leader of the “friendly people” and the person who writes “a new history of Slavic peace and unity.”
