Russia responded to US claims for testing anti-satellite system

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova spoke about the US military tests in space

Since the 1950s, the United States has been steadily pursuing a course towards the use of outer space for military operations and the deployment of strike weapons systems in it in order to achieve military superiority up to the achievement of total domination in outer space. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the US claims on testing the anti-satellite system.

She stressed that Washington and its allies are carrying out large-scale programs to develop weapons systems designed to use force or threat by force in space , from space or in relation to space, and also tests in orbit the latest attack weapons of various types without any warning.

Zakharova recalled that on February 20, 2008, the United States used the SM-3 anti-missile to destroy the American satellite “USA-193”. At the same time, she noted that Moscow, unlike Washington, “did not enshrine in its doctrinal documents the task of achieving military superiority in space.” At the same time, Russia confirms its readiness to discuss space security issues with the United States, she added.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also stressed that the tests of the Ministry of Defense, as a result of which the inoperative Russian Tselina-D spacecraft, which was located in orbit since 1982, were carried out in strict accordance with international law and were not directed against anyone. This event was carried out with the aim of preventing sudden damage to the country's security in the space sphere and on Earth by existing and prospective space assets of other states.

Earlier, the White House accused Russia of “neglecting security” due to testing an anti-satellite missile. The administration of US President Joe Biden also promised that they would seek with allies a response to these actions of Moscow.
