EMERCOM: in Russia in 2021 more than 600 settlements were affected by floods and floods
In Russia in 2021 from floods and floods more than 21 thousand people suffered. TASS was told about this in the press service of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation.
According to the department's estimates, similar emergencies were recorded in more than 600 settlements. More than 10 thousand houses and 250 socially significant objects, as well as almost 300 bridges and more than 700 road sections were flooded.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that Crimea, Transbaikal, Krasnodar and Khabarovsk Territories, Amurskaya region and the Jewish Autonomous Region. The reasons for the increase in floods were the abnormal indicators of water content in the rivers of the Far East, Siberia and the south of Russia, coupled with cyclonic activity.
In September, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov said that the annual economic damage from floods in Russia is about 75 billion rubles. The minister noted that it is planned to build and reconstruct more than 380 kilometers of engineering protection structures by 2024. According to him, more than 55 percent of problematic sections of river beds will be cleared.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, said that cities located in the lower reaches of mountain rivers are most susceptible to weather events. He explained that the dangerous phenomena associated with explosive convection and leading to active precipitation and very strong winds are more difficult to predict than others. Floods primarily threaten those Russian cities located in the lower reaches of rivers, as well as coastal cities. Heavy rainfall increases the water level, which leads to flooding of settlements and problems in the lower reaches of these rivers.
