WhatsApp has a new privacy-enhancing feature

WhatsApp now has the ability to hide some profile data from some contacts

The popular WhatsApp messenger now has a function that will increase user privacy. According to the WABetaInfo portal, the update may already be available to users with application version 2.21.23.14.

This is the ability to hide some of your profile data from some contacts. In particular, users will be able to customize the lists of those people who see the time of the last visit, profile photo and the “About me” block. All these functions were previously tested in separate beta versions of the application, but now they have become available to a wide range of testers at the same time.

Users who have enabled this feature, called “My contacts, except …” will not be able to see the time of the last visits to the messenger for those contacts whom they have excluded from the list. At the same time, this rule does not apply to the profile photo and the block with personal information: the user will be able to see them even from those contacts whom he has blocked access to similar information about himself.

It is noted that on those devices, where the new function is not available, it will appear in future updates.

Earlier it became known that the popular WhatsApp messenger can be used on a computer without being tied to a phone. This beta version is available to anyone. The offer to take part in the testing will appear after the application is synchronized with the desktop version of WhatsApp.
