Canada Decides to Return Home the Families of Embassy Employees in Haiti

“The security situation in Haiti is rapidly deteriorating. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada has decided to temporarily remove the support staff and family members of the employees of the Canadian embassy from Haiti, ”the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry clarified that diplomats and consular staff will remain in Port-au-Prince to provide assistance Canadians in this country.

Problems with security began in the island state after the head of the country, Jovenel Moise, was killed in the presidential residence. Now armed groups are kidnapping people across the country, taking transport passengers hostage, and one of the largest Haitian gangs is threatening to violently overthrow the current Prime Minister, Ariel Henri, unless he voluntarily resigns. The politician who demanded the resignation from office suspect him of involvement in the assassination of the president.
