Zakharova called the ban of St. George's ribbon in Latvia “the reincarnation of fascism”

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: the ban on the use of St. George's ribbon in Latvia is the reincarnation of fascism

the use of St. George's ribbon during public events is part of the revival of fascist ideology. She wrote about this in her Telegram channel.

“In this country, we are witnessing the successive reincarnation of fascism: the prohibition of the symbols of fighters against fascist criminals and at the same time the legalization of the processions of the Waffen SS veterans,” she said.

According to Zakharova, the moire ribbon of the medal “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War” is also considered the St. George ribbon. “Does this mean that now veterans living in Latvia cannot wear it even on holidays?” – she noted.

Earlier, the Latvian parliament supported a bill banning the use of St. George's ribbons during public events. The Seimas adopted the document in the third and final reading. The ban will apply to entertainment and holiday events, meetings, processions and pickets.
