On the same day, police went to the address in downtown Hemsley where a Japanese family lived: 52-year-old Yoshika Yasutake, her 46-year-old brother Takahiro and 76-year-old mother Michiko Yasutake. In one of the bedrooms of their house, the police found the decomposing remains of Yoshiki and Takahiro's sister, 49-year-old Rina, who was a talented artist during her lifetime.

Experts came to the conclusion that the woman died of natural causes, the violent nature of death was excluded. However, the relatives of the deceased were brought to trial on charges of obstructing the lawful burial of the body. Under British law, they could face life imprisonment for this.

After hearing the case file, Judge Sean Morris said that all three family members suffer from a rare mental illness, which makes this case unique for a criminal court. He decided to stop the prosecution of the accused and added that if the case is considered by the jury, the court will not prevent them from passing a verdict on the innocence of these people because of their madness.

Earlier it was reported that a resident of the Austrian region Tyrol kept the mummified corpse of his mother in the basement for more than a year and received a pension for her. An 89-year-old woman who suffered from dementia died of natural causes, according to police.
