US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken mistakes of 2014 “. He stated this during talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba in Washington, RIA Novosti reports.

Blinken noted that Moscow could make a mistake and try again to repeat the same scenario when it accumulated strength from the Ukrainian border, crossed it and invaded the sovereign territory of Ukraine, while falsely claiming provocations. He stressed that all provocations come exclusively from Russia.

In addition, Blinken thanked Kiev for “restraint” in this situation. He also added that there is no clear understanding of Moscow's intentions in Washington. Nevertheless, according to him, the American administration knows how Russia operates.

Contradictory message

Ukrainian position

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in turn, said that during his visit to the United States he received new information from the American authorities about “attempts at escalation” by Russia. According to him, what the Ukrainian delegation learned in the United States corresponds to its own research and analysis of Ukraine, adds a number of new elements and allows to form a more complete picture of what is happening.

The minister also noted that the exchange of data strengthens both sides. So, he said that Kiev shared with the States and their partners some new details about what is happening in Belarus. Belarus is a potential front that cannot be ignored, Kuleba summed up.

In addition, at the conference following the talks, Kuleba called the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline a problem not only for Kiev, but for the whole of Europe. The Foreign Minister also stressed that Russia is using gas “as a weapon” against other countries, including European ones. Blinken, in turn, noted that Moscow has allegedly already used energy as a weapon and a political tool in the past. The secretary added that he was watching for possible signs of a recurrence of such events.

Relations between Kiev and Moscow deteriorated sharply after the reunification of Crimea with Russia in March 2014 and the outbreak of conflict in Donbass in April of the same year. Part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions declared independence. Kiev tried to return them by force, but to no avail. Ukraine accuses Russia of armed aggression and occupation of Crimea and Donbass regions. The Kremlin rejects the claims.
