ISS escapes collision with Chinese space debris

The ISS successfully performed an evasion maneuver from the Chinese satellite Fengyun-1C

Mission Control Center (MCC) reported that the International Space station (ISS) avoided collision with the debris of the Chinese satellite. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the state corporation “Roskosmos”.

According to the statement of “Roskosmos”, a space debris evasion maneuver was successfully carried out. It is noted that for this, with the help of the Progress MS-18 cargo spacecraft docked to the ISS, the flight altitude of the station was increased by 1.2 kilometers.

The threatened ISS is one of about 2.5 thousand fragments of the Chinese meteorological satellite Fengyun- 1C was formed in January 2007 as a result of an anti-satellite weapon test by Beijing.
