US Officer Harrington: Bypassing the Montreux Convention Will Help Fight Russia in the Black Sea leadership in the Black Sea. This method of struggle was named by US Navy officer Brian Harrington, quoted by The Hill.
The Montreux Convention provides for restrictions on the tonnage of warships during the passage of the straits in peacetime, which non-Black Sea countries must comply with. Harrington called on states to unite to circumvent this rule.
The military noted that the Bastion and Caliber missiles provide Russia with enormous power. In addition, he remembered fighters that hinder NATO's activity in the Black Sea region.
“Escorting US and NATO warships in the Black Sea by Russian warships and strike aircraft has become a generally accepted norm,” Harrington said.
As a solution to the problem, he proposed conducting exercises and military maneuvers, during which high-tech weapons would be used. The officer also suggested strengthening the positions of NATO allies with cruise missiles.
In his opinion, only these steps can “preserve the freedom of the international waters of the Black Sea.”
Previously, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ( General Mark Milli said that NATO member states need to maintain a dialogue with Russia and China, as they have become the new world centers of power.
