Ryabkov: Russia will not support UN security Council resolutions, aimed at the economic strangulation of the DPRK

WASHINGTON, July 31. /TASS/. Russia strongly opposes attempts at economic strangulation of the DPRK and will not agree to a resolution of the Security Council (SC) of the United Nations, which sets similar goals. With such a warning made in a demonstrated on Sunday an interview with broadcaster ABC, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov.

From his statements was that in the headquarters of UN in new York discusses the project of not one, not several new security Council resolutions providing for tougher sanctions against the DPRK. Deputy head of the Russian foreign Ministry did not specify on whose initiative was developed the document or documents. The American media had previously reported about a single draft resolution, prepared and distributed by the Washington among the other permanent members of the UN security Council.

“We are in the process of discussing a draft resolution of the UN Security Council, which provides further measures (against North Korea – approx. TASS). And we are ready to do it. But this resolution does not have to equate measures aimed at the cessation of illegal activity by Pyongyang development of nuclear weapons and missile technology, with the issue of economic strangulation of the whole country. Here’s the red line we should not cross,” – said Ryabkov.
