Naval parade in honor of Navy Day started in St. Petersburg. In the event, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin made a tour lined up ships. On Sunday, July 30, reports TASS.
The head of state boat No. 001 was accompanied by Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu. Putin congratulated the crew of the ships of the Day of the Navy. After that his boat was moored at the Admiralty embankment, where the President will watch the parade.
The parade involved about 50 ships and submarines, as well as 40 aircraft and helicopters of the Baltic, Northern and black sea fleets and the Caspian flotilla. Among them will be shown the nuclear missile cruiser “Peter the Great”, the world’s largest nuclear submarine “Dmitry Donskoy” and a number of new Navy ships.
However, as noted in a press-service of the Kremlin, the main parade “is held for the first time in recent history in accordance with the presidential decree signed on 27 July 2017”.
Day of the Navy is traditionally celebrated on the last Sunday of July. In honor of the holiday on main bases of the Navy are sea parades and demonstrations.
