Dead diplomat and human rights activist Yuri Ryzhov

Moscow. July 29. INTERFAX.RU — On 87-m to year of life has died the winner of the Moscow Helsinki group (MHG), diplomat, academician Yuri Ryzhov.
“The Moscow Helsinki group expresses sincere condolences to the family of Yuri and mourns with them,” — said in a statement on the website of the MHG on Saturday.
Farewell to Ryzhov will be held at the Sakharov center. The time and date were not disclosed.
Yuri Ryzhov — Soviet and Russian scientist in the field of fluid mechanics, politician and public figure, diplomat, academician, doctor of technical Sciences.
He was born 28 Oct 1930. In 1989-1991 he was Deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In 1992-1999 worked as the Ambassador of Russia in France. He is also known for his human rights activities, was awarded in 2016, the Moscow Helsinki group prize for his historic contribution to the protection of human rights and the human rights movement.
Ryzhov is one of the founders in the early 2000-ies, when significantly increased the number of “spy cases” against scientists, Public Committee to protect scientists. The organization provides assistance and support to the Russian scientist charged with treason in the form espionage and disclosure of state secrets.
