Nawaz Sharif

Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif resigned. On Friday, July 28, reports Reuters with reference to the office of the Prime Minister.

Previously, on 28 July, the country’s Supreme court decided to remove a politician from power on the basis of investigation of scandal with the “Panama records” and start a criminal case against him. In addition, Sharif barred for life from political activities.

As reported in the office of the Prime Minister, he resigned, despite the “serious claims” in the judicial process.

The court also registered a case of corruption against not only Sharif, but also against members of his family. Among them the daughter of the head of the government of Maryam Sharif, and his two sons. The verdict, which stated that Sharif was unable to prove his innocence, issued a five-member Supreme court.

In April, the Supreme court of Pakistan refused to dismiss the Sharif from the post of Prime Minister. However, local opposition was expressed for his immediate resignation.

In proceedings of the International consortium of investigative journalism, published on 3 April last year, claimed that more than 200 Pakistani citizens owned offshore companies. Among them two sons of the Prime Minister (Hussein and Hassan) and his daughter Maryam, and the families of the two wives of his brother Shahbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif and chief Minister of Punjab province.

Nawaz Sharif four times served as Prime Minister of Pakistan. He was Prime Minister from November 1990 to April 1993 may-July 1993, from February 1997 to October 1999 and from July 2013 to present.
