The main task in Syria is the complete cessation of bloodshed and ensure conditions for a political settlement. This opinion was expressed by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a press conference after talks with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto. His words to the correspondent “Tapes.ru” on Thursday, July 27.
“And then the Syrians through a broad dialogue under the UN auspices and on the basis of security Council resolution 2254 should decide what country they should live,” — said the Russian leader.
Earlier on Thursday Vladimir Putin has arrived in the Finnish city of Savonlinna on the invitation Sauli Niinistö. The visit is timed to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the state independence of Finland.
The Russian leader thanked his counterpart for the invitation. In turn, the Finnish President said that it is pleasure and honor to take of the Russian leader. The sides discussed bilateral relations and international issues, particularly the situation in Ukraine and the Syrian settlement.
April 12, Putin said that military action in Syria is intended to prevent the return of terrorists on Russian territory. In October 2015, the Russian head of state said that the main task of the Russian operation in Syria is to “stabilize the legitimate government and create the conditions for a political compromise.”
