The initiative of the Council of Federation on the introduction of sanctions against Warsaw due to the adoption of amendments to the law on decommunization is not surprising. On Tuesday, July 25, said the Vice-speaker of the Sejm Ryszard Terletsky, Polskie Radio reports.
According to the politician, Moscow’s position on this issue has not changed, despite the fact that “the document does not violate the Polish-Russian agreement”. “This law does not change anything in a situation when various references are on the graves of soldiers or even on graves,” said Terletsky.
On 25 July, the Federation Council offered Russian President Vladimir Putin to limit cooperation with Poland because of the law on the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers, as well as to impose sanctions against parliamentarians who initiated it. Press Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that while there were no decisions for this reason.
The President of Poland Andrzej Duda approved a new version of the law on decommunization July 17. The document, in particular, provides for the dismantling of Soviet monuments throughout the country, including busts and memorial plaques.
