In India, a women’s police units

In the North-West of India has a women’s riot police. About it reports The South China Morning Post.

They will investigate crimes, sexual offences, particularly rape. So, in Jaipur they will patrol bus stops, colleges and parks, where women are more vulnerable to attacks.

In India annually about 40 thousand women are raped. However, as the newspaper notes, in fact, this number may be much higher as many victims are afraid to seek help from the police.

“And now just need to call or send a message in WhatsApp, we’ll be right there” — leads the publication the words of Sarah Chodhary, who works in the police.

According to representatives of the Indian authorities, employing the police of new employees, they want to demonstrate a zero-tolerance policy against crimes committed against women.

Currently in Indian police officers are predominantly men, women constitute only seven percent of the total number of guards in the country.

Violence against women remains one of the most pressing problems in India. In 2013, the authorities of the country under the influence of the society has tightened the punishment for such crimes. Wide coverage both in local and international media started after the death of 23-year-old girl in December 2012, was raped by six men in a bus in Delhi. The victim later died from severe injuries.

Of the six criminals who were accused of assaulting a student, one committed suicide in prison, four were sentenced to death and another was received the maximum term for a minor to three years in prison. However, despite the harsh sentence, the number of such crimes has not decreased.
