Chuck Schumer
The leader of the Democrats in the US Senate Chuck Schumer said his party must cease to lay the blame on Russia for the defeat of their candidate Hillary Clinton in the presidential elections. He stated this in an interview with The Washington Post, published on Saturday 22 July. Excerpts from the conversation leads to The Hill.
“When you lose someone, who has a 40% popularity, you don’t blame someone else (…), you blame yourself. (…) So what did we do wrong? People didn’t know what we stand for, only what we are against [Donald] trump. And they still believe it,” said Schumer.
The United States presidential election held in November 2016, the victory was won by main rival Clinton, the Republican trump. The latter repeatedly accused of communications with Russia, and the Moscow of meddling in the election of the President.
So, in July the New York Times reported that Donald trump, Jr. in the summer of 2016 met with a lawyer from Russia Natalia Veselnitskaya, hoping to get dirt on Clinton. The newspaper claimed that counsel “had ties to the Kremlin.” After that, trump Jr. published correspondence with producer Robert Goldstone, in which was discussed about meeting with Veselnitskaya for the sake of incriminating evidence.
She Veselnitskaya rejected accusations that it had helped Moscow to influence the results of presidential elections in the United States. She stated that she has no ties with the Russian government, and stressed that she has no dirt on Clinton.
In January of this year was published a declassified version of the report of US intelligence, which claimed that hackers attacked American computer systems during the election campaign, are the Russian authorities are using the attack allegedly wanted to influence the political process in the country. In response, the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is seriously tired of the accusations and believes the ongoing witch hunt. Trump has described the situation with the same words.
