State lawmakers have requested an update to the plans during the cold war in order to confront the growing threat of North Korea, which is developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles capable of reaching the Islands, the report said.
In this regard, the Hawaii emergency management Agency launched an educational program in which, starting in November, on the first business day of each month will be to test a warning system for nuclear attack. Hawaiians will hear a siren in the first one since the late 80-ies, the Agency said.
With the help of leaflets and television programmes people will be informed about what to do during an alarm. To find the shelter would be no more than 15-20 minutes, and all actions must be brought to perfection, representatives of the emergency services.
They also note that the Hawaiians, who often face natural disasters in the form of hurricanes and tsunamis, should have an emergency kit that includes food and water for two weeks.
