Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to meet with the Vice President of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki, reported the press Secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov. His words to the correspondent “Tapes.ru” on Friday, July 21.
“This meeting is being prepared”, — said the official representative of the Kremlin.
Earlier on Friday, the RIA Novosti news Agency reported that al-Maliki plans to visit Moscow on a working visit from 23 to 26 July. It was noted that the Vice-President of Iraq intends to meet with Vladimir Putin, foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko.
Al-Maliki told the news Agency that in the course of communication with high-ranking officials would focus “on the need to strengthen the role of Russia in the region and in Iraq in particular and to strengthen economic relations in the fields of electricity, energy and trade”.
17 June, the Russian leader expressed the view that former U.S. President George H. W. Bush was right in how he responded to the aggression by Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
