Information about the awarding by the European court of human rights (ECHR) thousands compensation 24-m Russian prisoners in the case of violation of electoral rights is not true. This is stated in the press release received by the editors”.ru” of the Ministry of justice.
“In total, the European court has awarded nine of the 24 applicants the payment of postal expenses in the amount of from 8 to 30 euros,” — noted in the Ministry.
The Ministry of justice confirmed that on 4 July, the ECHR found no violations of electoral rights of Russian prisoners in the prison in the proceedings “Isakov and 23 others against the Russian Federation”.
However, the court, according to authorities, dismissed the claims on compensation of moral harm, and the request for reimbursement of funds spent on legal aid in the proceedings.
Earlier the lawyer Igor Trunov said that the ECHR ordered Russia to pay 30 thousand euros for each of the 24 prisoners who were not allowed to take part in the Duma elections in 2011. The lawyer explained that the European court considered it a violation of article 3 of Protocol No. 1 to the European Convention, which refers to the right to free elections.
Under article 32 of the Constitution of Russia, the citizens containing in places of imprisonment by sentence of the court cannot vote. However, this rule does not apply to prisoners in jail.
