The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia has criticized the decision of the arbitration court in the Hague on the ship Arctic Sunrise. This was stated by the Deputy Director of the Department of information and press, Artem Kozhin, reports on Thursday, July 30, TASS.
According to him, Russia did not take part in the proceedings: Moscow considers that the Tribunal did not have jurisdiction in this case.
“Regret to say that their decisions arbitration in fact encourages purposeful illegal actions in the exclusive economic zones of States on their continental shelf, condone so-called “peaceful protest”,” — said the diplomat.
As explained Kozhin, the arbitration decision ignores the current practice of combating irresponsible actions at sea against potentially hazardous objects.
On Tuesday, July 18, the international court of arbitration in the Hague ordered Russia to pay compensation in the amount of 5.4 million euros for the arrest and detention of the vessel Arctic Sunrise owned by Greenpeace. In 2013, the environmental activists, who were on Board, tried to land on the Prirazlomnaya platform, but was arrested and the ship towed to Murmansk. Later activists pardoned.
