MOSCOW, July 20. /TASS/. The founder of the Moscow Helsinki group (MHG), human rights activist Lyudmila Alexeyeva said that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with her on Thursday promised to pardon former Senator Igor izmestiev.
She told about it on video at a meeting of the presidential Council on civil society development and human rights (HRC), which is held in honor of her 90th anniversary of the inaugural meeting.
“I the President said, “It’s not a gift, it’s a request. Do the kind thing, mercy Igor izmestiev,” — said Alexeyev, noting during the meeting that “a pardon is not an act of justice, it is an act of mercy.” “I said, I promise,” he brought a member of the HRC response to Putin. Alexeyev said that he believes in the fulfillment of the promise of the President.
