Trump threatened Maduro “decisive economic action”
WASHINGTON, 18 Jul — RIA Novosti. The US President Donald trump said that the US “will take decisive economic action” if the leader of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro will convene the constituent Assembly on 30 July.
“Yesterday, the Venezuelan people again made it clear that they stand for democracy, freedom and the rule of law. However, their strong and bold actions continue to be ignored a bad leader, who dreams of becoming a dictator,” the statement said trump.
He noted that “if the regime Maduro will convene its constituent Assembly on 30 July, the United States will take decisive and rapid economic action.”
On the eve of Venezuela was the so-called “people’s referendum” had no official status. It was attended by 7.2 million people, the majority of whom voted against the convening of a constituent Assembly at the initiative of President Nicolas Maduro to prepare amendments to the Constitution. The authorities do not recognize the legal consequences of this vote and do not plan changes in the schedule of the constituent Assembly elections scheduled for 30 July.
In Venezuela since early April, are mass protests after the Supreme court’s decision to severely limit the power of the National Assembly. The decision was reversed, but opposition supporters took to the streets demanding the resignation of the members of the court, and hold early elections. Now they are protesting against the convocation of the constituent Assembly, considering it an attempt to change the Constitution.
