The Ministry of foreign Affairs condemned the attempted attack of dippredstavitelstva in Syria. This is stated in a special statement posted on the Agency’s website.
As indicated in the message, July 16 two mortar shells fired allegedly controlled by terrorists “Heat Tahrir Al-sham” (the former “Dzhabhat EN Nusra”) and “Falak Ar-Rahman” of the Metropolitan area of Jobar, exploded near the outer perimeter of the Embassy representation. No employee was hurt.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks against the Russian diplomatic representation and peaceful neighborhoods in Damascus,” reads the MFA statement.
The building of the Russian Embassy in Syria in recent years, repeatedly exposed to rocket and mortar attacks. On 10 March it was reported that one rocket landed at a distance of 100-200 meters from the territory of the mission.
In early February, during the same fire one of the mines detonated on the territory of the Embassy complex between office and residential buildings, the other — 20 metres from the main entrance to the Embassy. Buildings were vandalized.
