The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko asked the senators to visit prisons and colonies where they are serving the punishment women, the disabled and children to assess their situation and understand whether the changes to the legislation in this area.
“I ask you in the framework of the regional week to visit the prison colony and imprisoned women, the disabled, children, get on the ground in the problems, what else need help, support, what is our can be legislative reaction,” she said at a meeting of the Federation Council after a speech in the framework of the “pravchasa” the head of Ministry of justice Alexander Konovalov with a report on the detention of women, children and persons with disabilities in places of deprivation of liberty.
According to Matvienko, the humanization of the whole system of the Federal penitentiary service is “simply a necessary condition for any normal society.” She believes that it is necessary to deal with such problems as providing employment for prisoners, women and persons with disabilities, and social and legal support for people released from prisons and places of punishment.
In his speech in the Federation Council Konovalov said that the medical examination that was sent wheelchair Anton Mamayev, who was convicted in Moscow for 4.5 years in prison for organizing the robbery, will take about five days.
