Donald trump sued for blocking followers on Twitter
People accuse the President of the United States in the assault on the freedom of speech.
Few of Twitter users blocked by US President Donald trump, filed for him in court. The plaintiffs believe that the public servant is not entitled to restrict their freedom of speech on a public platform, which they consider Twitter.
The lawsuit was filed in new York court on behalf of seven users and public organizations for the protection of freedom of speech Knight First Amendment Institute.
Among the plaintiffs is a police officer, a sociology Professor and composer. In a public statement the organization said that “President trump and his assistants public relations violate the first amendment to the US Constitution (freedom of speech, press, Assembly, religion, etc.—””), blocking of individuals in presidential Twitter because they criticized the President or his policies.”
Knight Institute stressed that last month was sent to the presidential administration a letter warning of a lawsuit if the President or his aides would not unlock the Twitter users who are banned for expressing their opinion.
The plaintiffs emphasize that they consider this kind of lock is a violation of the law because it was done not by a private individual and a public servant.
“Twitter Donald trump has become an important source of news and information about the government, and, as a consequence, an important platform for the discussion of this information and information about the President — the Director of the organization Jamil Jaffer.— The first amendment to the Constitution applies to this digital platform to the same extent that it relates to the halls or open meetings in schools. The white house is illegally excluding people with such digital social platforms just because of the fact that they do not agree with the President”.
The lawsuit lists the cases, after which Mr. trump or his aides blocked subscribers. So, for example, on June 6, Donald trump wrote in his Twitter account: “Sorry guys, but if I relied on a fake news from CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Washington Post or NY Times, I would not have won the election.” To which one Twitter user, Rebecca Buckwalter from Washington, said: “to be honest, it’s not you won the election, Russia won it for you”, after which he was locked.
