The lake district in England included in the list of UNESCO world heritage

The lake district is a picturesque region in the North — West of England, glorified by the English romantic poets, is a UNESCO world heritage site. He received the same status as the Grand Canyon in the USA the Taj Mahal in India and Machu Picchu in Peru.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the UNESCO Committee in Krakow, where he discussed a list of 33 objects.

The Committee commended the beauty of this region, which inspired many artists and writers.

The lake district, an area of 2292 square kilometres, was the 31st object in Britain and its overseas territories included in the world heritage list of UNESCO.

The area is sought from UNESCO giving it special status since 1986.

Lord Clark Windermere, Chairman of the Lake district National Park partnership, which has made a request, called the Committee’s decision historic. “A lot of people joined forces to achieve this and we believe that this decision will have a positive impact on the nature of our region, people who visit it and those who consider it their home,” said he.

Each year the lake district is visited by approximately 18 million people and employs about 18 thousand local residents and bringing its budget to $ 1.5 billion.

This region has the largest English natural lake — Windermere, and highest mountain in England — Scafell pike.

Harriet Fraser, writer and patroness of the society of friends of the Lake district, said: “This is a very beautiful place with deep culture not only agriculture in the hills, but also special methods for nature conservation”.

Among other British attractions included in the list of UNESCO world heritage stone megalithic complex of Stonehenge, the castle and the Cathedral in the city of Durham and the city of bath.
