Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope for the development of Russia’s relations with the European Commission, despite the challenges. “We hope to continue to develop contacts with the European Commission,” Putin said at a meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on the sidelines of the summit in Hamburg.
“We are in touch, despite all the problems that exist,” – said the Russian head of state. He recalled that in his time spent with Jean-Claude Juncker “useful talks” at the St. Petersburg economic forum in 2016, and “in April came to Moscow MS Mogherini, her next meeting with our Minister of foreign Affairs is scheduled for July 11 in Brussels.”
In turn, the Juncker also stated the willingness of the European Commission to the dialogue with Russia. “We know what we want. The problems that exist between Russia and the EU, known – Crimea, East Ukraine. But with the European Commission we want to continue to look for opportunities for cooperation, the points of intersection of interests”, – said Juncker. According to him, such opportunities were scheduled during the talks held in St. Petersburg in June last year.
“I think that we need to continue further,” he said.
