Foreign Ministry: Georgia’s cooperation with NATO could undermine relations between Tbilisi and Moscow

Strengthening cooperation between Georgia and NATO, as well as the hostile rhetoric of Tbilisi against Moscow could undermine the process of normalization of relations with Russia. This was reported in the press service of the Russian foreign Ministry.

It is noted that in Prague on Friday, July 7, a meeting of Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin and special envoy of the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Abashidze.

“The Russian side reiterated that strengthening of cooperation of Tbilisi with NATO and the participation of international venues, the hostile rhetoric of the Georgian official representatives increasingly contrary to the trend of strengthening of trade, transport and humanitarian relations, and can undermine this objectively beneficial to the peoples of both countries process”, — stated in the message of the foreign Ministry.

The Ministry also reported that during the meeting the diplomats confirmed readiness to continue mutually beneficial normalization of bilateral relations.

Earlier, Karasin said that the cooperation between Georgia and NATO is increasingly making Tbilisi a party to a policy of “containment” of Russia.

June 27, NATO said about the growing “on all fronts” the threat from Russia.

The expert of Association of military political scientists, head of the Department of political science and sociology of the Russian economic University Andrey Koshkin said the official statement of the Alliance.
