The reason, according to local media, was a short circuit at the substation that led to the explosion of the oil transformers.

As reported to IA REGNUM in the Main Department of EMERCOM of Russia for Tomsk region, information about the emergency shutdown of electricity received in the operational services of the city at 13:50 local time, an hour later, the equipment of the substation was included in the work and energy began to connect users. 15:27 in all the houses, came earlier under the blackout, electricity was fully restored, — said the Agency.
Electrical substation “Vostochnaya” with the installed capacity of 589 MVA was commissioned in 1963. Of its work depends on electricity the most part of the city of Tomsk, including peak backup boiler house of the plant “Sibcable”, ball-bearing plant, and the settlement of the Satellite, which is the training reactor of the research Institute of nuclear physics.
