MURMANSK, July 5. /TASS/. Nuclear submarine missile cruiser Northern fleet “Smolensk” on Wednesday destroyed a cruise missile sea target in the Barents sea. About it reported in a press-service of the fleet.
“The shooting was done from an underwater position of cruise missiles “Granit” complex naval target position located at a distance of about 400 kilometers. According to the data of objective control, target hit successfully,” — said the press service.
The launch was conducted in the framework of the planned activities of combat training, said the Navy.
As noted by the commander of the Northern fleet Vice-Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, “in the preparation and conduct of the crew firing showed high professionalism and naval training”.
“Smolensk” — nuclear submarine missile cruiser of the project 949A “Antey”. Built at the Severodvinsk shipyard “Sevmash” in 1990 and enrolled in the combat strength of the Northern fleet.
